Plot Synopsis :

In the village of Ramgarh, Retired Police Officer Thakur Baldev Singh ( Sanjeev Kumar ) hires two small-time thugs Jai ( Amitabh ) and Veeru ( Dharmendra ), from jail to take revenge on the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh ( Amjad Khan ) who is terrorizing the villagers.
Gabbar had brutally murdered Thakur’s family and chopped off both his arms. Veeru falls in love with Basanti ( Hemamalini ) and Jai Falls in Love with Radha ( Jaya Bhaduri ) who is the daughter in law of thakur.
Jai and Veeru protect the villagers while clashing with Gabbar, blending epic friendship, romance, humor, and high-octane action.
In the end, Gabbar is captured, but victory comes at a heavy price. But in the Original Climax, Gabbar is Killed By Thakur.

Some Details & Facts :

Sanjeev Kumar wanted to play the role of Gabbar Singh in this film. But Ramesh Sippy refused him, as he was not exactly freezing in Gabbar Singh’s role.

The film was re-released in 3D in 2014. The budget of this film in 3D was approx 25 crores and collected 12 crores at the box office. The third biggest film in Bollywood history proved to be a disaster in 3D version.

Question 1 : What was the original ending of Sholay ?

Answer : In the climax of the original version of the film Sholay, Thakur kills Gabbar Singh. But when this version went to the censor board, then they did not pass it. They had asked to change the climax because the film had more violence. Then the film’s climax was changed.

Question 2 : Where was Sholay Filmed ?

Answer : The film was shot in Ramanagaram, Bangalore. After Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay, this place also came to be called Sippy Nagar. There was the famous train scene in the film. It took 20 days to film that scene. The scene was filmed in the Mumbai Pune line, opposite Panvel.

Question 3 : Who Was Originally offered the role of Gabbar Singh ?

Answer : Before Amjad Khan, Gabbar’s role was offered to Danny Denzongpa. But then he was busy shooting for the film Dharmatma in Afghanistan. So he refused to act in the film Sholay.
